Mission Statement:
Pharmacy residents completing the RMH PGY1 Residency will be competent and confident in the management of medication therapy for a variety of disease states in an acute care setting. They will be accountable for the optimization of pharmaceutical therapy. These pharmacists will be proficient in drug information, communication, time management, and in educating other health care professionals, patients, students, and community members on medication related topics. Residents will demonstrate a commitment to the profession through involvement in pharmacy associations. Residents will exhibit professionalism by practicing a philosophy of self-assessment and personal performance improvement thereby strengthening the foundation on which a lifelong career may be built.
Vision Statement:
The RMH PGY1 Residency will prepare pharmacists for practice as a clinical pharmacist who is perceived as an essential component of the patient care team in an acute care setting.
Specific Residency Requirements |

Required Rotations: Orientation, Critical Care, Drug Information, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine(IM) with a focus on cardiology, IM with a focus on nephrology, Oncology, Critical Care, Drug Information, Pharmacy Management, Leadership, and Informatics. |

Primary Elective: Residents will select one primary elective to ensure adequate patient care experience: IM with a focus on surgery, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care II, or a second month in one of the IM rotations. |

Other Electives: Residents will select two other electives: Antimicrobial Stewardship, Palliative Care, Pharmacy Informatics II, Pharmacy Management II, Precepting, Medication Safety, Women’s Health & Pediatrics, Oncology II, or one of the Primary Electives. |

Longitudinal Experiences: Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Distributive Services (Staffing), Presentations (includes Journal Clubs, Case Presentations, Tech Talks and an ACPE-approved education program.

On-Call: Residents participate in the Clinical Pharmacy On-call service.

Research Project: Residents will complete a research project designed to achieve a specific research objective and prepare a manuscript for publication.

Medication Use Evaluation: Residents complete a medication use evaluation to develop an understanding of the medication use process. |
 |
Staffing Requirement: Residents staff approximately 36 hours per month: every other weekend Jul through September, then every third weekend. Residents are also required to work 40 additional weekend hours over the course of the year.

Other: Residents will complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) curriculum and will respond to codes. |
