Construction Company to Perform Mass Grading
for New RMH Hospital and Health Campus
Bovis Lend Lease, construction manager for the new RMH hospital
and health campus, has contracted with Faulconer Construction Company,
headquartered in Charlottesville, Va., to provide site mass grading.
The first phase of site mass grading, which will begin in late September,
consists of preparing the building pad (the ground where the hospital
will sit) and creating access roads on the property. This work is
expected to be completed in December, weather permitting. All mass
grading on the site should be completed by spring 2007, according
to Dennis Coffman, RMH director, facilities planning and development.
Faulconer Construction Company is a 60-year-old multi-discipline
site and road contractor that serves customers both in Virginia
and throughout the central Atlantic region. Recent projects include
construction of two major sections of the four-lane I-288 loop road
around Richmond, Va. Faulconer also served as site contractor on
the 890 MW gas turbine generating station sited on 65 acres in Fluvanna
County, Virginia.
“We selected six grading contractors to bid this work,”
said Boney Jones, general superintendent for Bovis Lend Lease. Those
contractors, in addition to Faulconer, were Perry Construction of
Winchester; Partners Excavating of Harrisonburg; Branch Construction
of Lynchburg; English Construction of Richmond; and Vesillo of Grogan,
WVa.
Four of the six firms submitted bids.
“After evaluating all four of the bidders, we narrowed it
down to Perry and Faulconer. We interviewed both companies and compared
all aspects of their bids and decided Faulconer was a better fit,”
Jones said.
Faulconer currently is ranked in the “Engineering News Record
Top 600 Specialty Contractors.”
