RMH Employees View Progress on New Hospital Site

HARRISONBURG – RMH employees who took one of the three Nov. 29 bus tours of the future hospital site were able to get a close-up view of ongoing progress on a beautiful autumn day.

Dennis Coffman, director, RMH Facilities Planning and Development, and Scott Campbell, facilities management senior project manager, were the special "tour guides" who shared details about the new hospital project.

Coffman told employees that about 300 workers are on the site each day currently, but that number will rise to more than 700 at the height of the project. So far, workers have moved 600,000 cubic yards of dirt on the site. Rising from the ground, the stairwells are 105 feet tall. Each stairwell will have one glass wall to the outdoors to encourage employees and others to use steps instead of elevators.

Coffman pointed out the future locations of numerous departments and structures to be situated on the campus. Employees had an enthusiastic response to this unique opportunity. As a result, RMH plans to offer employee bus tours again in the spring.
